Stroudsburg wrestling coach and athletic director Sean Richmond has died

Stroudsburg head coach Sean Richmond believes senior 106-pounder Josh Jasionowicz can compete with anyone in the state.

Stroudsburg wrestling coach and athletic director Sean Richmond was killed in a crash on Interstate 380 Saturday. The husband and father of two daughters was 38 years old.

Richmond was killed on I-380 North in Tobyhanna Township just after 6 p.m. Saturday. One report said he was on his way to Stroudsburg’s prom at Kalahari Resorts.

State Police and the Monroe County Coroner are investigating the accident.

Richmond, a 2004 Easton Area graduate, compiled a 109-26 record, including two PIAA medals and two Northeast Regional championships under head coach Steve Powell.

He was part of Easton’s four consecutive PIAA Class 3A team tournament titles.

Sean Richmond and his assistants brought the Valley style and family approach to the Stroudsburg wrestling program

Richmond, a 2008 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, was the only wrestling coach in the area who also served as athletic director. During his eight seasons in charge, he built the Stroudsburg wrestling program into one of the area’s most consistent winners.

The son of David and Tammy Richmond had a 109-42 record in his only head coaching job, including 12-7 this season with Stroudsburg. He was previously an assistant at his alma mater.
