2 dead, 10 injured in weekend shooting in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) — At least two people were killed and 10 others injured in weekend shootings across Chicago on Saturday.

The victims’ ages are between 19 and 40 years old.

Friday

In the weekend’s first shooting, a man was shot before crashing into a wall in the 6700 block of South Woodlawn Avenue just before 7:30 p.m.

Chicago police officers responded to a traffic accident after someone flagged them down. They found the victim in the car with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. The victim’s age is unknown.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and later died.

About an hour later, a 21-year-old woman was grazed on the shoulder in a parked car in an alley in the 900 block of West 53rd Street just before 8:30 p.m. She was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition, a release was made.

The perpetrator left the scene on foot.

A 19-year-old man and another unidentified man took themselves to Illinois Masonic Hospital after suffering gunshot wounds.

The 19-year-old was hit in the leg and was in good condition. The second victim was hit twice in the upper body and was in critical condition.

The time and location of the shooting are unknown.

Police said the two were uncooperative when providing details about the shooting.

For other shootings from Friday 5 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m.:

  • At 9:50 p.m., two men, 31 and 27, were shot at outside in the 9600 block of South Loomis Street. The 31-year-old was shot in the shoulder and face and was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition. The 27-year-old was shot multiple times in the upper body and taken to Little Company of Mary in critical condition. The victims were unable to provide any further information about the incident.
  • At 11:09 p.m., two men, 19 and 23, were passengers in a car in the 2700 block of South Lawndale Avenue when they were shot by an unknown assailant. The 19-year-old was shot twice in the upper body and taken to Mount Sinai in good condition. The 23-year-old was also hit once in the upper body and was also taken to Mt. in critical condition. The victims were unable to provide further information and no one is in custody.

Saturday

  • At 2:05 a.m., police responded to the 300 block of West Locust Street for a person shot and found a 34-year-old man shot in the foot. The victim was in an argument with another man who pulled out a gun and shot the victim before leaving the scene. The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.
  • At 2:57 a.m., a 32-year-old man was found in a residence in the 1600 block of East 84th Street with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his foot. A weapon was recovered and the victim was taken to U of C in serious condition. No further injuries were reported.
  • At 3:16 a.m., a man between the ages of 30 and 40 was found by police in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue with two gunshot wounds to the back. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition. A witness told officers that the victim had been shot by a perpetrator driving in a car.
  • At 4:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of South State Street, A 30-year-old man and an unknown man were arguing This turned into a fight. The perpetrator pulled out a gun and shot the victim, hitting him in the chest. The victim was pronounced dead. The perpetrator fled the scene northbound in an SUV. No other injuries were reported.
