Customer hit employee with sledgehammer, victim seriously injured

According to Durham police, a customer attacked a Lowe’s employee with a sledgehammer.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 9:03 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of an assault at Lowe’s in the 4400 block of Fayetteville Road.

According to the investigation, an employee was helping a customer when the customer took a sledgehammer from his shopping cart and hit the employee on the head with it.

After the victim fell to the ground, the customer grabbed a box of drill bits and fled the store, police said.

Emergency services responded and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The victim’s condition is now stable. Investigators have obtained arrest warrants in this case.
