Man charged with abandoning baby in Pasadena dumpster

HOUSTON (KIAH) — A man was in court Tuesday after being charged with abandoning his infant daughter in a dumpster in Pasadena.

Houston police said Anferne Gray told them he was suffering from anxiety and no longer wanted to care for the baby.

According to our partners, Gray wanted to return the child to a fire station, but instead left the girl at a motel pool, where she remained unattended for 15 minutes. Later, Gray took the baby to a nearby restaurant and left her in a dumpster for three to four hours.

The child is expected to survive. Gray also faces additional charges in addition to the child abandonment charge, including assaulting a family member causing breathing difficulties, records show.

Gray is expected back in court on Wednesday.
