Man in his 40s arrested for multiple rapes in Manchester city centre

A man in his 40s has been arrested following a series of rapes in Manchester city centre.

Detectives from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), which investigated four different rape cases in the City centerdating back to February 2024, say the suspect was arrested yesterday morning (Sunday, July 21, 2024).

According to GMP, the suspect – who has not been named – is believed to have targeted drunk men and women, raped his victims and then stolen their personal belongings.

The suspect is currently in police Custody for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt, GMP’s rape and other sexual offences officer, described the incidents as “truly horrific crimes” and said specialist police officers had supported those involved and would continue to do so.

“We are doing everything we can to provide them with the appropriate care they need now,” DS Hunt assured the public.

“No one should feel unsafe on the streets of Greater Manchester. We remain committed to ensuring justice for all rape victims and will not tolerate any form of sexual violence in our communities.”

DS Hunt and GMP urge anyone who has experienced sexual violence or abuse to Greater Manchester They are asked to please come forward and report the incident. He added: “Every report will be thoroughly investigated and we will ensure that you and your loved ones are fully supported every step of the way in our journey to justice.”
