Man arrested on felony charges in connection with fatal shooting on North Side is fourth suspect, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A man arrested on felony charges in connection with a fatal shooting nearly a year ago was the fourth person charged in the case, San Antonio police said.

Austyn Hartnett, 22, was the fourth person arrested for involvement in a shooting that left two men dead at a North Side apartment complex on July 20, 2023.

According to police, officers arrived at the complex in the 1800 block of Lockhill Selma Road but found no evidence of a shooting.

On July 21, 2023, the family of one of the victims reported him missing. Later, the second victim was also reported missing.

A rental car believed to belong to the victims was later found at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Amanda Street, police said.

Officers found evidence that the victims were in the vehicle, including “a lot of blood,” police said. The homicide squad used the vehicle’s tracking device as part of its investigation.

Later, on July 25, police found two bodies in a shallow grave in the 100 block of Mauerman Road, police said.

The bodies were identified as the 20-year-old victims, police said. In a press conference on Thursday evening, a SAPD spokesman said the names of the victims would not be released.

Almost a year later, with the assistance of the FBI, two suspects were arrested on federal charges.

Esteban Flores, 24, and Bradlee Grinde, 20, were identified in that case and additionally charged, police said.

The SAPD spokesman did not say when Flores and Grinde were arrested.

A third suspect, 22-year-old Michael Trevino, was arrested Wednesday, police said. Hartnett was arrested Thursday.

All four suspects will face capital crimes charges, police said.

Harnett will also be charged with tampering with evidence to relocate the vehicle, police said.

According to SAPD, the other three suspects will be brought to court for manipulation and desecration of corpses.
