A “chemical accident” has resulted in ten people being hospitalized in a block of flats in west London, the London Ambulance Service (LAS) said.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident in the Landridge Road block in Fulham at around 00:40 BST.

A spokesman for the LAS said the people were “treated primarily for respiratory problems” on site and then taken to hospital.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the ten people had been “exposed to an unknown chemical substance”.

“Long-running incident”

The police are waiting for updated information on her condition.

About 60 firefighters, including some wearing breathing apparatus, were involved in the blaze, which lasted just over five hours, a London Fire Brigade (LFB) spokesman said.

Residents of Ethel Rankin House, where the incident occurred according to BBC News, were evacuated as part of the emergency response.

The LFB spokesman said: “The firefighters carried out a final check in the building and found no elevated levels, so the residents were able to return to their homes.”

Station Commander Graham Crow, who was on site, said it was a “protracted incident”.

A LAS spokesman said: “We have sent a range of resources including paramedics, emergency responders, members of our Hazardous Area Response Team and a trauma team in a London Ambulance Helicopter car.”

The cause of the incident is currently being investigated, the Met said.
