11-year-old raped in Thane, Maharashtra, girls among four minors accused

Mumbai:

An 11-year-old girl was raped in Ambernath in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said. The main accused, a minor, was arrested along with five others. According to police, four of the accused are minors and one is a girl.

According to police, the 11-year-old was in the town of Ambernath when the accused girl persuaded her to accompany her to a nearby village where the other accused were waiting.

The girl stated in her complaint that the main accused raped her in an autorickshaw. The news agency PTI reported that the accused threatened the girl not to speak to anyone about the attack. But she managed to escape and reach home, where she told her parents about the attack.

A rape case was registered under the new penal code Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was also invoked.

Inspector Jagannath Kalaskar of Ambernath police station said two adult accused were taken into police custody and the minor accused were sent to a reformatory home.
