Projecting Von Miller’s 2024 Buffalo Bills Stats

When the Buffalo Bills signed Von Miller to what is arguably the biggest deal of the 2022 offseason, it was supposed to help the team win its first Super Bowl in franchise history. Miller chose to sign with the Bills after winning a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. Adding him to a defense that had just collapsed in the infamous “13-Second” game was the perfect fit heading into 2022.

In just 11 games in 2022, Miller recorded 8 sacks and 21 total tackles. Buffalo traveled to Detroit (for the back-to-back week) to face the Lions and while they came away with a Thanksgiving Day win, they suffered a major loss when Miller injured his knee and suffered a torn ACL. The injury landed Miller on injured reserve and sidelined him for the first four weeks of last season.

Miller was allowed to return in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars when the Bills were in London. Miller’s return was met with much excitement, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Miller’s production was so poor late in the season that he was left out of the starting lineup in Week 17 against the New England Patriots. By the end of the year, Miller had only made three total tackles.

There’s no denying that coming back from a major injury is tough. Perhaps Miller should have waited longer to return so he could be himself rather than forcing a return just to potentially regress at a higher rate. The same situation happened a year earlier with Tre’Davious White, who tore his ACL on Thanksgiving in 2021. The biggest difference was that White took his time coming back, while Miller seemed to rush it.

There is no excuse for Miller not to be able to provide top-tier football for the Bills next season. He has had a full offseason to prepare and it is now or never for him. He is already on his way to the Hall of Fame and has won two Super Bowls. However, he showed his commitment to the Bills this offseason by taking a pay cut.

When the pressure is on the Bills, they have shown that they can deliver and Miller is part of that equation. As long as Miller stays healthy and can return to his former form, it’s hard to say that Miller won’t deliver on the Bills defense. However, the biggest impact he can make on this team is by helping develop Greg Rousseau and AJ Epenesa, both of whom have taken big steps forward in Miller’s absence and return.
