Five arrested for raping minor girl in Karnataka

Madikeri: A gang of five men kidnapped two minor girls and sexually assaulted one of them near Nathangala on the Karnataka-Kerala border near Kutta in Virajpet, Kodagu on Wednesday.

The other girl managed to escape. Based on the tip-off, the police arrested all five defendants.

Arrested were Navindra (24) and Akshay (27), residents of Nathangala, Rahul (21), Manu (25) and Sandeep (27) from Nadundana Colony, Tolpatti, Kerala.

Charges were brought against the accused.

Three of the five accused persuaded the two girls to get into their car and raced to a coffee plantation in Nathangala, where the other two accused joined them.

One of the girls was raped by the accused and they attempted to sexually abuse another girl as well. However, the latter managed to escape and alerted the nearby villagers.

When the accused tried to escape, the villagers stopped their car. The accused dropped the girl and fled the scene.

However, all five defendants were later caught, police said.
