Atlanta Ranks Among Top 10 Cities for Food Tourism

A new study has revealed the most popular cities in the United States among tourists looking to experience all the culinary delights they have to offer.

The study by social casino site Hello Millions analyzed 199 U.S. cities listed by the U.S. International Trade Administration as the most visited in America and the corresponding number of Instagram and TikTok hashtags related to the city’s dining offerings. Hashtags considered in the study include “#(city)foodie,” “#(city)restaurants,” and “#(city)placestoeat,” among others. The number of hashtags on both social media platforms was then combined and ranked to reveal the most popular.

According to the popularity of social media, New York City is by far the best city for food tourism in the United States – with an impressive number 12.5 million hashtags on Instagram and TikTok related to restaurants and food in the city.

The most recent figures released by the New York State Comptroller’s Office revealed that in 2019, New York had 23,650 restaurants and food industry establishments – tourists and locals alike have the opportunity to enjoy endless culinary experiences. At the rate of one visit per day to just one restaurant, it would take a food lover nearly 65 years to eat them all.

Los Angeles is the second-most popular American destination for foodies. Not only does the city attract tourists hoping to live the life of the rich and famous, but one study found that the city is home to more 5.3 million hashtags when it comes to its culinary offerings. From classic American burgers to the city’s world-famous taco scene, LA offers one of the best dining experiences in the United States.

Third place in the ranking of the best gastronomic cities in America is occupied by ChicagoKnown worldwide for the city’s iconic deep-dish pizza, the study found that there are more than 4.1 million messages under hashtags on Instagram and TikTok related to restaurants in the Illinois city.

The first of three Texas cities included in the top 20 gastronomic cities in the United States, Houston ranks fourth in the national ranking. According to the results, there is more than one huge 3.1 million hashtagssuch as “#AustinFood” and “#AustinRestaurants,” on Instagram and TikTok, with foodies eager to share their favorite finds.

The top 5 American gastronomic destinations are completed by the tourist attraction MiamiFlorida. While the city is well known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife, the results revealed that Miami is also a hit for its cuisine. The study found that the city is home to more than 2.7 million hashtags When it comes to places to eat. Plus, with TripAdvisor awarding over 30 of the city’s restaurants with the coveted “Traveller’s Choice 2023” label, it’s clear that the city is a popular choice among foodie tourists.

The sixth most popular U.S. city among food lovers is DallasThe study found that the North Texas city has more than 2.25 million messages with hashtags related to its culinary scene.

Las Vegas New York City ranks seventh in the ranking. By combining food and restaurant-related hashtags mentioning the city, the study identified an impressive number of 2.15 million messages showcasing the cuisine that “Sin City,” as it is commonly known, has to offer.

With just under 2 million messages, Washington DC And Atlanta are the eighth and ninth best foodie hotspots in America, respectively, each earning more than 1.9 million messages with hashtags related to city restaurants. Seattle completes the top 10 with a significant score 1.7 million messages marking places to eat and specialties available in the northwestern city.
