Annual test of Macon County emergency warning and notification system July 10 – Decatur Tribune

On Wednesday, July 10, at 11:00 a.m., the Macon County Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) will conduct the annual emergency alert test utilizing the Macon County Emergency Alert & Notification System.

This system is used in Macon County during emergencies. Alerts are sent out with potentially life-saving messages about critical events such as chemical leaks, shootings, etc. This information is sent to residents who have signed up online, as well as any residents who use a landline phone. If you only use a cell phone, you will not receive these important notifications unless you sign up online.

Notifications that residents can sign up for include warnings about significant weather events.

Towns and cities in Macon County can send alerts to anyone who signs up for alerts, such as, but not limited to, boil water notices, road or construction closures, and winter weather closures. The municipalities offering these alerts are: Decatur, Forsyth, Harristown, Long Creek, Maroa, Mt. Zion, Oreana, and Warrensburg.

There are several ways to receive a notification: SMS, phone call, email, TTY/TTD or via the Everbridge app in the App Store.

If you are already registered for the Macon County Emergency Alert and Notification System, please log in to verify that your contact information is current. If you have registered and do not receive the notification on July 10, please correct your contact information online.
