Man dies of injuries in July 4 motorcycle crash – State’s first update

Wilmington police are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred on July 4th.

Officials said that around 5:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of West 2nd and North Rodney Streets after a crash involving a car and a motorcycle was reported.

When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old Luis Jimenez Jr., the driver of the motorcycle, in critical condition. Jimenez was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 8.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, police said on Tuesday.

Officials said preliminary findings indicate the motorcycle disregarded a red light, which led to the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
