Houston SPCA Moves 18 Rescued Horses to Higher Ground Ahead of Beryl

HOUSTON – As everyone prepares for the arrival of Tropical Storm Beryl on Monday, the Houston SPCA said it has moved 18 rescued horses from their isolated rehabilitation property to their equine rehabilitation center on the Houston SPCA campus.

Currently, they have a total of 24 horses, three pigs, 12 chickens and a peacock under their care.

“Horses and animals like that, they really sense the weather before it happens. So a lot of them are already a little bit more nervous and excited,” said Linnea Wood, equine manager for the Houston SPCA. “And I feel like they’ve all handled it really, really well.”

If necessary, the SPCA said it has boats ready to respond to pet rescues in the event of flooding.
