Buffalo Airport Runway Rehabilitation Project Begins

Buffalo Niagara International Airport is set to begin the second phase of the Runway 5-23 rehabilitation project.

Starting Monday evening, the track will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to facilitate construction activities.

The secondary runway will be used for arrivals and departures during the project.

The planned main runway project will include a new centerline, new taxiway lighting and taxiway realignment.

“Everyone involved in the project has worked very hard to minimize any impact to travelers and residents of the surrounding community,” the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority said in a statement. “We appreciate the patience of our residents during this necessary trail work.”

The project is expected to be completed by July 31.
