2 dead, more than 15 injured in shooting on Detroit’s east side

Detroit — More than 15 people were injured and at least two people were killed in a mass shooting in the east of the city, two police sources said.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Rossini near Gratiot in Detroit’s Red Zone, a neighborhood that has been one of the city’s deadliest for years, sources said.

On Sunday morning, a large contingent of police officers was still on site.

According to sources, the victims were taken to St. John Hospital.

“The problem is that these shootings have become the norm,” said Detroit Police Chief Ricardo Moore. “On January 1, the police will say crime is down, and then it will all start again. Funeral homes, hospitals and flower shops are the only ones profiting from crime in Detroit.”
