Cleveland Police honor late Officer Jamieson Ritter with memorial run

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland Police are hosting a memorial run for late Officer Jamieson Ritter on Saturday morning.

According to a Facebook post from Cleveland’s 3rd Police District, runners will meet at 9 a.m. outside the Cleveland Ontario Police Department headquarters and then march to the Grater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial on Lakeside Avenue.

There they meet for a prayer and a minute’s silence before making a short formation run around the block and ending back at the memorial.

According to the post, classmates at Officer Ritter’s academy will walk with the class flag in his honor.

The memorial service for Officer Ritter will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist.

Officer Ritter, 27, was shot around 1 a.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of East 80th Place in the Hough neighborhood.

According to Police Chief Dorothy Todd, several officers arrived in the area to serve an arrest warrant for a man wanted for aggravated assault.

When they arrived, the suspect, later identified as Delawnte Hardy, was observed leaving a house on a bicycle. While attempting to stop him, the suspect fired shots, striking Officer Ritter, according to Police Chief Todd.

Hardy was arrested at the scene and taken to the Cuyahoga County Justice Center. He is charged with aggravated murder and is being held on $5 million bail.
