Herrin police investigating two shootings believed to be related | Crime and Courts

HERRIN, Illinois – Police in Herrin are searching video surveillance in connection with two shootings Wednesday.

Herrin police initially said officers were called to the 600 block of South 12th Street at 1:35 a.m. on July 3 for a report of a firearm being used. They found a house struck by a bullet, but no one was injured.

This incident is still under investigation.

Several hours later, at 11:05 a.m., police officers responded to a call in the 700 block of W. Tyler Street for a shooting at a home.

When officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with nearby witnesses about the shooting. Police said a gray Dodge Avenger was seen leaving the area where the shooting occurred. Multiple shots were reportedly fired into a home from the area of ​​the vehicle.

No injuries were reported in this incident either.

Herrin police said they later found the suspect vehicle at a home on W. Oak Street.

When an officer tried to speak to someone inside the home where the suspect car was found, several men and women ran toward the north side of the home, police said.

Several police authorities in the area have cordoned off a restricted area around the area where they suspect the perpetrators fled.

Herrin police said several people have been identified and are suspected of being involved in the incident.

The police also believe that the two shootings are related. Both incidents are still being investigated.

“We believe both shootings were limited incidents for all involved and there is no threat to the public at this time,” Herrin police said in a press release.
