On Tuesday’s agenda: Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the island of Carriacou in the Grenadines with sustained winds of 150 mph (240 km/h), the strongest Category 4 storm ever recorded in that region. The good news for us (as of late Monday morning) is that most models suggest the storm is not headed our way. However, another tropical disturbance is coming a few days later, and its final path is still uncertain at this point.

We discuss the arrival of serious storms just a month into Atlantic hurricane season and what, if any, impacts they might have for us with Space City Weather meteorologist Eric Berger.

Also this hour: Hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees were resettled in the United States after the fall of Saigon in 1975, including right here in Houston. Historian Erica Allen-Kim discusses her new book, The construction of Little Saigonwhich examines the creation of “Little Saigons” across the country and how the community took root in the city centre in the 1970s and 1980s.

60 years ago today, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed into law. We look at the changes that took place in Houston after this landmark law.

And we continue our summer series visiting area museums and attractions with a trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art Houston.

Audio from today’s show will be available starting at 11 a.m. Central Time. We also have a free podcast here, on iTunes, Stitcher, and other apps.
