Police identify dead woman in abandoned house in southeast Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) – On Tuesday, Austin police determined the identity of the person found dead in southeast Austin last week.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on June 21, APD responded to a report of a dead person in the 2600 block of Metcalfe Road, according to a police news release. When officers arrived, they found an “apparently dead” woman in an abandoned home.


That woman was later identified by police as Alyssa Rivera. Police said she was pronounced dead “a short time later.”

APD investigators believe Rivera was murdered in the abandoned house “by an unknown perpetrator,” the press release said.

Anyone with any information can call APD at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Capital Area Crime Stoppers at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.

According to police, this is now being investigated as Austin’s 27th murder case in 2024.
