Questions remain about the man shot by police in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Police Department and Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday. The Allen County Coroner said 22-year-old Linzell Parhm was shot and killed by a FWPD officer.

When will the bodycam footage be released?

Mayor Sharon Tucker said the body camera footage showing the officer shooting 22-year-old Linzell Parhm will be released once Linzell’s family has seen the video. It’s unclear when that will happen.


Did Parhm have a firearm?

Unclear. In a viral social media video, a FWPD officer can be heard telling someone in the stopped vehicle not to reach for a weapon. The official Fort Wayne Police press release states, “Actions of the occupants of the vehicle caused the officer to fire their weapon.”

Who was the police officer who shot Parhm?

Unknown. WANE 15 has reached out to the FWPD to learn more about the officer involved. The department responded, “This information is provided as needed. This is a unique situation, so normal procedures have been adjusted.” The FWPD quoted Mayor Tucker’s remarks at a press conference on why this is an unprecedented situation: “This situation is unprecedented because there is a viral video of the incident circulating.”

Were there other people in the vehicle?

Unclear. The viral video shows the officer involved on the passenger side of the stopped vehicle. The FWPD press release states that there were other people in the car. However, the FWPD has not confirmed how many people were in the vehicle.
