Becky Hill kept sexual assault secret for EIGHT years because she feared no one would believe her

Becky Hill kept the sexual assault to herself for eight years because she thought no one would believe her.
The 30-year-old singer admitted she was abused by a male friend at the age of 21 and now speaks about her “healing” experience in her new single “True Colours”, which she produced with 37-year-old musician Self Esteem – whose real name is Rebecca Taylor.
In an interview with Glamour UK she said: “I’ve always described myself as a strong bitch.
“I like to think I can take a lot of shit, but in that moment it felt like something had left me that was never coming back.
“I will never get this part back. This moment will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
After the attack, the hit singer of “Lose Control” admitted that she tried to “sweep the matter under the rug” but ultimately decided to report the crime after it had “eaten away” at her for eight years.
Becky explained that she wanted to share her story because she felt it could be “powerful” for her future children to hear if they ever find themselves in a similar situation.
She said: “The reporting rates for rape and sexual assault are so low that I wanted to sit with my future children and, if – God forbid – the same thing happened to them, say: ‘You know what? When I was your age, I went to the police and reported it and that made a big impression on me.'”
The “Never Be Alone” singer explained that she wanted the song to have an “angry” tone and not reflect the grief she has experienced.
She said: “I didn’t want it to be sad or vulnerable. I wanted it to be angry. I wanted to make a really angry bop.”
The singer said she felt “let down by the education system” because she was “never” taught the content.
Still, Becky hopes that her openness about sexual assault will help “keep the conversation open.”
She said: “I hope that things will change a little and that people will be able to talk more openly about these things again without feeling ashamed and that the responsibility will once again lie with the perpetrators.”
