Manville man convicted of sexually touching a child

MANVILLE, NJ – A Manville man has been sentenced to four years in New Jersey State Prison for endangering the welfare of a child.

Peter J. Tober of the Superior Court of Somerset County imposed the sentence on June 14 against Raul Elias, 59, of Manville, which also requires Elias to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and places him under lifetime probation supervision.

During the sentencing, Elias hardly took responsibility for his actions.

On March 18, 2022, the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office received information that a minor reported being sexually abused by a man in Manville at the age of 8.

The investigation into the alleged sexual assault was carried out by detectives from Somerset.

The man was identified as Raul Elias and was charged with second-degree sexual abuse of a child under 13 through contact with a child and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child through sexual conduct.

A trial was held which lasted three days, including jury selection and deliberations.
On March 13, a Somerset County jury convicted Elias of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
