Two people were killed in a three-car crash in Montgomery County, Maryland, Friday morning. All main lanes on northbound Interstate 270 are closed while police investigate the crash.

The accident occurred at Exit 6A, near Falls Road and Route 28, just before 5 a.m., according to a post on X by Pete Piringer, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Emergency Services.

When rescue workers arrived, one car was already on fire, Piringer said. One passenger was able to escape from the vehicle and was taken to hospital while firefighters extinguished the fire. Two others remained trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene of the accident.

Authorities said another person involved in the accident suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. Another vehicle appeared to have been abandoned after the accident.

The interstate was cleared by 11:20 a.m., and all main lanes on I-270 northbound between Falls Road and Route 28 were closed for most of Friday morning’s rush hour while officials investigated the crash.
