The IDF reportedly warned of a major Hamas attack three weeks before October 7

Documents released by Israel’s Kan broadcaster suggest that the Gaza Division of the Israel Defense Forces warned of the possibility of an attack less than three weeks before October 7.

Documents obtained by the broadcaster on September 19, 2023, indicate that the department had information that Hamas was training for a large-scale invasion of Israel and planning to take hundreds of hostages.

On Monday, the public broadcaster claimed that a document entitled “Detailed Training” was circulated internally on September 19 and brought to the attention of at least some senior intelligence officials.

Kan did not provide any details about which officials may have seen the document.

According to Kan, citing anonymous security sources, the document indicates that about 200 to 250 hostages were to be taken as part of the planned attack.

The document observed Hamas training patterns in the weeks before the attacks and detailed their daily routine: “At 11 a.m., several companies were observed gathering for prayer and lunch before training began. At noon, equipment and weapons were distributed to the fighters, after which a drill was held at the company headquarters. At 2 p.m., the attack drill began.”

The document is also said to contain details of Hamas terrorists’ plans to infiltrate Israeli outposts on the border.

According to the documents, Hamas fighters from the Nukhba force were instructed not to leave any documents behind after raids on bases.

The instructions to Hamas activists included instructions on how to take hostages and ensure that they had no phones or means of communication with their families, and detailed maps of Israeli bases were created.

The document shows that they were also ordered to threaten to kill hostages to prevent them from escaping.

Kan claims the document was brought to the attention of senior intelligence officials.

However, the government and top military officials said they had not been warned at the time of an imminent planned invasion.

According to Kan, a soldier involved in the report wrote after October 7: “I feel like crying, screaming and cursing.”

Kan said the Israeli military had not recognized the document but said it would investigate the failures that led to October 7 and would “present them transparently to the public.”
