Heatwave in New Jersey brings temperatures around 30 degrees this week

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for tomorrow and an extreme heat warning for Wednesday, possibly into Saturday.

Our first foray into the long-lasting summer heat began this afternoon when temperatures were between 30 and 35 degrees. There was a light breeze and the humidity wasn’t too bad this afternoon. Today it was bearable. Pleasant heat, if you will.

That all changes tomorrow. The southerly winds will die down, but the moist Carolina air will still be carried very slowly up the coast. The sun will shine on the Jersey landscape and immediately raise temperatures to just under 90 degrees. In some places it will feel like 90 to 100 degrees.

For the rest of the week the heat will continue to increase.

The hottest times will be Thursday and Friday. Not only will some neighborhoods along Interstate 95 and Route 1 reach triple-digit temperatures, but combined with the humidity, we now have a toxic combination that feels like 100-plus degrees.

When can we expect relief? Not soon. It is possible that a storm system with some showers will move in late Sunday, bringing clouds and rain and causing the air temperature to drop back above 30 degrees. However, this “cooling” will only last for a short time. More heat is also expected next week.

The official start of summer is this Thursday. The warmth you all wished for last winter – IT’S HERE!
