Alex Edelman briefly mentions his sexuality in his award-winning comedy special Just for us and he talks about how he might base his next show on his identity.

The 35-year-old stand-up comedian will receive a Special Tony Award tonight for his “exemplary” Broadway debut in his one-man show Just for us.

In the show, Alexwho grew up in a Modern Orthodox Jewish family, says he would identify as bisexual if he had been raised secularly. Instead, he is “straight but has a few secrets.”

In a new interview Alex made further comments about his sexuality.

“I’m 35 and I’m still thinking about it,” Alex told diversity. “If someone said, ‘Are you a gay or a bi comedian?’ I wouldn’t necessarily check the box. But if someone said, ‘That’s a straight guy,’ I don’t know if I necessarily check the box. I’m thinking. I’m still thinking about it, I would say.”

“It’s a big deal,” he added. “Maybe it will be a future show.”
