Dead Island 2 shrinks to 7 million players in over a year

In the year since Dead Island 2 Since its release, the game has amassed “well over” 7 million players.

developer Dambuster Studios unveiled the milestone to celebrate the game’s first birthday. Likewise, these players have taken down 24 billion zombies on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PC.

“All of us at Dambuster Studios are impressed and thrilled by the outstanding response from our passionate hunters!” it wrote. “It’s been a truly memorable year for the Dead Island series.”

It’s unclear how this affected sales, but the game was an almost immediate success. It opened 1 million copies sold on opening weekend, and 2 million within a month.

Likewise, Dambuster didn’t highlight any particular system it performed well on, despite only appearing on Steam last April. It was previously exclusive to the Epic Games Store and a more successfulincluded.

The game definitely exceeded Deep Silver’s (and therefore Embracer’s) expectations. That’s impressive when you think about it long, arduous journey I took a while Dead Island 2 to see the light of the undead day.

The first Dead island had quite a tail behind it with a standalone expansion and a spin-off. Dead Island 2 has already released two expansions and Dambuster’s said it plans to “provide ongoing support across all platforms.”
