A Kamloops rapist who failed to register as a sex offender was sentenced to prison time he had already served.

Jeffrey Ernest William Trump, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of failure to comply in Kamloops Provincial Court on Friday.

Trump was 17 when he raped his girlfriend’s mother. In 2005, he was sentenced as an adult to 4.5 years in prison.

At the time of his sentencing, the judge described him as a sex offender who had attacked a defenseless woman over a long period of time. It was not his first conviction for a sex offense.

In addition to his prison sentence, Trump was ordered to register as a sex offender for 20 years. He failed to comply with that requirement between February and April of this year and was arrested last week.

The court found that this was Trump’s first violation of SOIRA of this kind.

Kamloops Provincial Court Judge Ray Phillips sentenced Trump to three days in jail.
