Two students killed another injured in an accident on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway

Two students from Bengaluru were killed and another injured when the SUV they were travelling in collided with a truck on the Bengaluru-Mysuru restricted national highway near Ramanagara in the early hours of Saturday.

The dead have been identified as Vishwa, 21, and Surya, 20. Suhas, 20, their classmate who was driving the car, is critically injured and is being treated in the intensive care unit.

The students were from Andhra Pradesh and were pursuing a diploma course at a private college in Vidyaranyapura in Bengaluru. They were on their way to Mysuru for a weekend getaway in Vishwa’s father’s SUV.

According to police, Suhas was speeding and lost control of the vehicle while trying to overtake a truck near Ramanagara. The car hit the rear of the truck and rolled several times on the road before coming to a stop. The vehicle was badly damaged and passersby and Ramanagara traffic police tried to pull out the trio who were trapped in the car.

They were taken to a nearby private hospital where police declared them both dead. Suhas sustained multiple injuries and is being treated in the intensive care unit.

Ramanagara traffic police have registered a case of death due to negligence and reckless and careless driving against Suhas.

Alok Kumar, deputy director general of police, traffic and road safety, said a total of six people were killed in road accidents due to overspeeding on the state’s highways within 24 hours. “Overspeeding is a sure recipe for disaster. Inexperienced drivers driving at night is also a cause for concern,” he said.
