Two Californians killed on I-44 in accident between semi-trailer and minivan

LACLEDE COUNTY, Missouri – Two people from Redlands, California, were killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-44 in Laclede County on Saturday, June 8, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).

According to MSHP, a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica driven by 75-year-old Allan Borgen with 54-year-old Isabelle Busse as a passenger was traveling west on I-44 eleven miles east of Lebanon when the accident occurred.


The accident report states that at 6:45 p.m., a semi-truck traveling east on I-44 veered off the left side of the highway near mile marker 142.2 and into the westbound lane, striking the minivan carrying Borgen and Busse.

Borgen was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 7:40 p.m. by the Laclede County Coroner, while Busse was later pronounced dead at 8:24 p.m. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Next of kin have been notified of the deaths of Borgen and Busse.

These are the 16th and 17th fatalities in MSHP Troop I in 2024 and the third and fourth fatalities in June.
