Attack on Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was attacked by a man in the heart of Copenhagen on Friday night. “Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was beaten by a man in the Kultorvet in Copenhagen on Friday night, who was subsequently arrested. The Prime Minister is shocked by the incident,” the Prime Minister’s office said in a statement. Soren Kjergaard, a barista who works in the Kultorvet, the public square where the attack took place, told Reuters that Frederiksen seemed “somewhat stressed.” A man has been arrested in connection with the attack and police are currently investigating the incident, according to Reuters. “Mette is of course shocked by the attack. I must say that it shakes all of us who are close to her,” Danish Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke wrote in an X-post. The attack occurred two days before Danes vote in European Parliament elections.
