Suspect arrested in connection with fatal Mt. Angel shooting

On January 1, police officers responding to a 911 call about a shooting found 42-year-old Brandon Slack of Mt. Angel with serious injuries. Slack did not survive.

MT ANGEL, Oregon – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Mt. Angel man on New Year’s Day, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers from the sheriff’s office and the Mt. Angel and Silverton police departments responded to Pershing Street near Marquam Street just before 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day after receiving a 911 call that a man had been shot. At the scene, officers found 42-year-old Brandon Slack of Mt. Angel with serious injuries.

Despite attempts to provide medical assistance, Slack died at the scene of the accident, the sheriff’s office said.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigators later identified 42-year-old Agustin Barocio of Mt. Angel as a suspect in that investigation. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a warrant has been issued for Barocio’s arrest on first-degree murder and other charges.

U.S. Marshals helped locate and arrest Barocio in Mexico on May 24. Barocio was returned to the United States and his court date is pending.

Slack’s family has been notified of the arrest, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.
