MP charged with child abuse and rape – The Morning Sun

A Mt. Pleasant man is accused of multiple sex crimes and domestic violence, including the rape of a child under the age of 13.

Manny Marcel Smith, 36, is scheduled to be arraigned today at 1:30 p.m. in Isabella District Court before Judge Aaron Miller after being named in a criminal complaint for first-degree sexual abuse (a felony punishable by at least 25 years in prison), second-degree sexual abuse (a felony punishable by 15 years in prison), fourth-degree child abuse (a misdemeanor punishable by one year) and domestic violence (a misdemeanor punishable by one year).

Smith also received a charge of intentionally assaulting a pregnant woman because he had a previous conviction for domestic violence. Court documents say the sentence for that offense would add an additional year.

Smith was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Isabella County Jail after Mt. Pleasant police began an investigation, but details of the arrest are unclear. The affidavit supporting the criminal complaint has not been made public because the victim is a minor, court records show.

According to the criminal complaint, Smith allegedly committed “sexual penetration” on a child under the age of 13, grabbed the child by the hair, dragged him across the floor and slapped him.

He is also accused of attacking his ex-wife.

According to court records, he remains in the Isabella County Jail despite being held on $350,000 bail.
