The federal agency said the water could be contaminated with manganese and three types of bacteria.

The water crates have the UPC code number 6 32565 00004 3. The individual bottles have the UPC code 6 32565 00001.

The following production data is indicated on the boxes and on the back of the bottles:

  • 11 November 2023
  • 12 November 2023
  • 13 November 2023
  • 24 November 2023
  • 25 November 2023

The water was sold nationwide through Amazon, USA Today reported.

Despite the recall, the FDA stated that the contamination was “not likely to cause adverse health consequences.”

Fiji released a statement to USA Today saying: “We have tested levels of manganese, a naturally occurring mineral, and all bacteria. Consumers can be completely assured that there are no health or safety risks.”

The Environmental Protection Agency stated: “Manganese occurs naturally in the environment. Manganese is essential for normal physiological function in humans and animals, and low dietary intakes of manganese are considered nutritionally essential for humans.”

It is found in water, air, soil and food, but usually in small amounts.

But long-term ingestion of high amounts of manganese can cause problems with a person’s central nervous system, including problems with visual reaction time, hand stability and eye-hand coordination.”

When the recall occurred on March 4, no press release was issued because the customers who had purchased the water were contacted.

“The affected products were immediately and voluntarily recalled. 99% of the affected bottles have been retrieved from warehouses and the remainder in warehouses will be returned,” Fiji told USA Today.
