Village leaders in Pakistan order ‘revenge bottle rape’ of teenager because her brother allegedly attacked her

Police in Pakistan have arrested 20 people after ordering the rape of a teenager in revenge for a rape allegedly committed by her brother.

Village chief in Multan made the decision after being informed that a 12-year-old girl had been raped by her cousin.

Police officer Alla Baksh said: “A jirga (village faction) had ordered the rape of a 16-year-old girl as punishment because her brother had raped a 12-year-old girl.”

However, sources told the BBC that the decision was not made by a council but by members of both families.

The council apparently instructed the complainant to rape the accused’s sister as punishment – according to the police, the man did so.

According to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the girl was forced to appear before the group and was raped in front of the group – and her parents.

The case only came to light when the mothers of the two girls reported it to the police and investigations revealed that both girls had been raped.

Police officer Ahsan Younas told BBC Urdu that 25 people had been arrested but the man suspected of rape was still being sought.
