Memorial Day weekend shootings in Chicago leave at least two dead and 10 injured – NBC Chicago

At least two people have been killed and ten others injured in shootings across Chicago this Memorial Day weekend.

In the only fatal shooting of the weekend so far, two men were shot in the East Albany Park neighborhood Friday night. At about 11:20 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 4700 block of North Troy and found two men shot in an alley. Both men, ages 20 and 21, were shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

After the shooting, a black sedan was observed fleeing the area at high speed.

As of Saturday evening, no one was in custody.

Last year, Chicago experienced its deadliest Memorial Day weekend in eight years, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times. At least 11 people were killed and at least 53 others, including two 2-year-olds, were injured in shootings across the city between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday.

Here are the shootings reported so far this year:

Saturday

  • A 32-year-old man was shot at about 2:43 a.m. inside a residence in the 900 block of East 80th Street, police said. Someone pulled out a gun and fired at the victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to the right buttock. He was taken to the hospital in good condition.
  • At approximately 12:18 a.m., a 51-year-old man was shot as he exited a vehicle in the 900 block of West Marquette. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left elbow and was taken to the hospital, where he refused medical attention.
  • In the 5800 block of South Prairie around 12:35 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk when a man fired shots and fled the scene, authorities said. The victim suffered a graze wound to the left side of the neck and was taken to the hospital in good condition.
  • At approximately 12:05 p.m., a 44-year-old man was shot on the sidewalk in the 2800 block of West 63rd Street. The victim was shot in the neck by an unknown assailant and was taken to the hospital in good condition.
  • In the 2700 block, a 25-year-old man was shot in a parking lot by an unknown assailant at approximately 3:39 p.m. According to police, the victim was approached by an unknown assailant, who pulled out a gun and shot the victim, hitting him in the groin and left leg. He was taken to the hospital in good condition.

Friday

  • A 41-year-old man was shot in the right arm in the 6400 block of South Marshfield Avenue around 6:40 p.m. The victim was approached by an unknown suspect who pulled out a gun and fired shots. The victim was taken to the hospital and is in good condition, police said.
  • At about 8:12 p.m., a 29-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle at a gas station in the 900 block of West Pershing when two women approached him and fired shots, police said. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the leg.
  • At about 10:37 p.m., three people were shot in the 300 block of West 59th Place, police said. Several people were in a vacant lot when shots were fired in the area. A 29-year-old man was shot in the lower left leg and was taken to the hospital in good condition. A 25-year-old man was shot in the right arm and was also taken to the hospital in good condition. The third victim, a 29-year-old man, suffered a graze wound and is also said to be in good condition.
