Police say swimmer was hit by boater in North Muskegon

The extent of the swimmer’s injuries is currently unknown.

NORTH MUSKEGON, Mich. – Police in North Muskegon are searching for the driver of a boat accused of hitting and injuring a swimmer training for a triathlon.

According to police, it happened at Bear Lake on Thursday, May 16, around 6:30 p.m. Witnesses reportedly called 911 after hearing two people in the water screaming for help.

One of the swimmers was struck by a boat, police said. The extent of her injuries is currently unclear.

According to the police, both swimmers took the necessary precautions during their training, including attaching neon buoys to themselves.

The police are now following up on information about the driver of the boat. If you have any information about this incident, you are asked to call North Muskegon Police.

The triathlon the swimmers were training for takes place Sunday in North Muskegon.
