Erie man charged after rollover accident ended in nearby yard

(WJET/WFXP) – An Erie County resident was taken to court Friday evening after state police said he tried to pass a tractor-trailer and caused his vehicle to roll.

PSP Corry troopers were called to the scene of an accident along Route 6 approximately 109 feet east of Swamp Road in Freehold Township, Warren County, on May 17 due to a sedan overturning in another person’s yard.

Police said the driver of the sedan was attempting to pass a semi-truck on Route 6 in a no-passing zone when he lost control of his vehicle due to oncoming traffic and left the roadway.

After going off the road, the driver landed about 100 feet in a nearby yard, then crashed into a tree, then continued another 20 feet, crashed into a building and finally rolled the car onto its roof.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident as the 19-year-old driver refused medical treatment at the scene. He was also accused of attempting to pass in a no-passing zone.
