No objection to sexual assault of a teenager in 2023

As part of the agreement, James Beauchamp will spend at least 36 months in prison for sexually abusing a teenager last year.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Michigan – A Kentwood man has pleaded no contest to several counts related to the sexual abuse of a 17-year-old boy.

James “Jimmy” Richard Beauchamp pleaded not guilty on Monday to the following charges:

  • Second degree sexual offense
  • Sexual abuse of children
  • Using a computer to commit a crime
  • Distribution of alcohol to minors

The case dates back to August 2023, when Beauchamp stayed with a 17-year-old boy at the Rodeway Inn in Grand Haven from August 11 to 12, according to police. During their stay, Beauchamp and the teen allegedly drank alcohol and the teen fell asleep.

Court documents also state that the victim said she woke up in the middle of the night and was sexually assaulted by Beauchamp, who also filmed and took photos with a phone, court documents say.

The teenager then left the hotel.

Beauchamp was interviewed by his employer at the time and told them he stayed at the hotel with the teenager and drank alcohol. He denied that any sexual contact occurred, the documents say.

Beauchamp was taken into custody on December 1, 2023 at Wedgwood Christian Services, where he was employed at the time.

Part of Beauchamp’s sentencing agreement is a minimum term of 36 months. He will receive his full sentence on August 26 at 10 a.m.

Investigators believe there may be more victims.
