Suspect arrested after break-in at evacuated Manton home | News

ANDERSON, California. – A suspect in possession of stolen property from an evacuated home in Manton was arrested Saturday, Anderson police said.

The suspect – later identified as Jay Wood of Burney – was stopped near the 5000 block of Rhonda Road for a traffic violation.

During the traffic stop, Wood did not cooperate and refused to present a valid ID, police said. For this reason, he was arrested.

A records search revealed that Wood was on probation and had several warrants out for his arrest, including one for assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

During a probationary search of Woods’ car, police found the following:

  • Various stolen items

  • Functional repeating rifle

  • ammunition

  • Over an ounce of meth

  • Drug paraphernalia

  • A social security number in Woods’ name

An extensive investigation revealed that Wood broke into a home in Manton that was under an evacuation order due to the Park Fire, police said.

The owner of the stolen property was contacted and his property returned.

Wood was later arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail and charged with several counts, including:

  • Serious criminal in possession of a firearm

  • Serious criminals in possession of ammunition

  • Possession of meth for the purpose of sale

  • Transporting meth for the purpose of sale

  • Burglary

  • Plunder
