Enzo Fernandez will take part in Chelsea’s pre-season tour despite ongoing club investigation

Despite recent controversy surrounding a racism scandal, Enzo Fernandez will take part in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the USA.

Earlier this month, the 23-year-old midfielder released a video showing him and his teammates singing a chant during post-match celebrations that was criticised as racist and homophobic towards France.

Fernandez could take part in Chelsea’s remaining pre-season games against Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid before the team returns to the UK for the new Premier League season.

The incident sparked a strong reaction from Fernandez, who had just won the Copa America with Argentina. According to a new report in the Daily Mail, Fernandez will see her again in the next few days when he travels to the USA.

The report states that Fernandez, who is currently under investigation by the club, will arrive in the States on Monday. It also mentions that he may need to discuss and clarify the situation with his teammates, some of whom have publicly condemned his behavior.

In response to the criticism, Fernandez apologised for the video, claiming it did not reflect his beliefs or character. Chelsea captain Reece James revealed earlier this week that he had tried to speak to Fernandez and acknowledged that the incident could negatively impact the dynamic in the team’s dressing room.

James told ESPN: “Of course. There’s always the factor that people don’t like it if there could be a problem. But until the day comes when everyone is together and in a room, I don’t know, but I hope things can be resolved smoothly and we can move on with the season.”

“I spoke to him a bit but it was difficult because we were in different time zones. Just a general conversation really. His views on what happened and he tried to explain his situation and what happened. It’s a really difficult situation. There’s no place for racism or discrimination in football.

“I think he quickly raised his hand and acknowledged that he had done something wrong and apologized to his teammates, the club and the other people who felt insulted. I think that was probably the best thing he could have done in that situation.”
