Trump’s attacks on Kamala Harris come into focus

Former President Donald Trump, in a speech to Christian conservatives, slammed Vice President Kamala Harris, assessing her stance on a range of issues from faith to the border.

On Friday evening, the Republican candidate addressed the crowds at Turning Point USA Faith’s Believers’ Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“Faithful Americans are the soul of our country,” Trump said to cheers.

Speaking at the religious-themed event, former President Harris was quick to criticize her stance on religious freedom.

Trump asked the crowd, “Does everyone here realize that the radical left ideology that Kamala supports is in fact militantly hostile to Americans of faith?”

The former president told conservatives that Harris had “viciously attacked highly qualified candidates for judicial office simply because they were members of the Knights of Columbus and suggested that their Catholic faith disqualified them from serving as a federal judge.”

Trump was referring to a conversation Harris had with judicial candidate Brian Buescher in 2019. At the time, Harris asked Buescher: “Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed women’s right to self-determination when you joined the organization?”

Trump continued the religious theme when he criticized Harris for not attending Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress on Wednesday. Harris did meet with Netanyahu on Thursday, but her comments reportedly drew ire from Israeli politicians.

“She doesn’t like the Jews; she doesn’t like Israel,” he claimed on Friday evening.

The former president told the crowd he asked Netanyahu, “How does a Jew vote for a Democrat?” Trump met with the Israeli president on Friday at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

“We came to the conclusion that it was largely tradition,” Trump said.

Trump called Harris a “bum” and then attacked his Democratic opponent at the border

“She was the border czar. Now they’re trying to say she was never the border czar,” Trump said. “They’re erasing it all over the palace because we have the worst border in history.”

His words come at a time when media outlets such as CNN, ABC News and MSNBC are moving away from the label “networks,” which has often been used to describe Harris’ role in overseeing U.S. relations with Central America in 2021.

Meanwhile, the White House claims that it is Republicans who are thwarting immigration reform. During a press conference this week, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre sharply criticized Trump for thwarting a border agreement in February.

“Why are Republicans so sensitive about not admitting that they are standing in the way of a border agreement?” asked Jean Pierre. “Why don’t they admit that? Why don’t they admit that the last president told them not to go ahead?”
