CHEYENNE, Wyoming – An air quality advisory is in effect across southeast Wyoming and much of the rest of the state until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne said Wyoming is currently experiencing poor air quality due to wildfire smoke from Canada and the Pacific Northwest.

According to weather website AccuWeather, the air quality index for Cheyenne was 91 on Tuesday evening. An index above 101 is unhealthy for children and active adults, while a reading between 51 and 100 can be harmful for sensitive groups, according to the American Lung Association.

The NWS in Cheyenne warns sensitive groups to minimize outdoor activities if possible.
