Victim of fatal shooting during Talmadge robbery identified, suspect arrested – NBC 7 San Diego

Authorities on Monday released the identity of a woman who was shot and killed during a robbery at an apartment complex in the Talmadge neighborhood last week.

Patrol officers responding to a report of a shooting at the apartment complex in the 4400 block of Euclid Avenue just before 9 p.m. on July 15 found Senait Legesse, 38, with at least one gunshot wound in one of the rental apartments, according to San Diego police. Legesse died at the scene.

Investigators have determined that the killer, a man wearing dark clothing, entered the apartment, pointed a gun at the victim and a 59-year-old man who lives in the apartment, and stole the resident’s wallet, said SDPD homicide lieutenant Jud Campbell.

The burglar shot the victim when she “intervened” to prevent the robbery, the lieutenant said. The shooter then left the apartment and fled on foot.

On Friday evening, police arrested parolee Robert Earley Madden, 35, on suspicion of killing Legesse. He was being held without bail at the San Diego Central Jail pending arraignment Wednesday afternoon.

Police did not say why investigators identified Madden as the suspected shooter.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Campbell said Monday. “There are still potential witnesses who have not yet been interviewed.”
