Homicide investigation underway in East Moline after man died Sunday

Shortly after 6:30 a.m. Sunday, East Moline police responded to the 200 block of 16th Avenue for an unknown incident, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. – Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found with a gunshot wound in East Moline early Sunday morning and later died, a news release said.

Just after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, East Moline Police officers responded to the 200 block of 16th Avenue for an unknown issue. According to Captain Jason Kratt, officers found a man with a gunshot wound inside a residence and began life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived on scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

East Moline Police Detectives have launched an active investigation into the incident. As of 12:50 p.m., the Illinois State Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been investigating the scene.

Police say the victim’s identity will be released by Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson once the family has been notified.
