Man who tried to kill Cobb County police officer arrested after hours-long standoff in South Carolina – WSB-TV Channel 2

COBB COUNTY, Georgia – A Cobb County man accused of trying to shoot a police officer and fleeing has been captured in South Carolina.

The incident occurred on Tuesday. Investigators said Julio Figueroa “fled from police after attempting to kill a police officer.”

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina was notified Wednesday that investigators believed he was in the area.

Investigators said Figueroa took a Greyhound bus to Richland County and stayed with his family there.

The Richland County Special Response Team and Fugitive Task Force responded to the home around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Figueroa refused to come out. Officers managed to get a woman and two small children safely out of the house, but Figueroa remained trapped inside for two more hours.

After Figueroa refused to talk to negotiators, lawmakers used “chemical munitions” on the house and Figueroa surrendered.

He is charged with aggravated assault on a public officer with a weapon, first degree burglary, possession of a weapon by a felon, obstruction of justice, possession of burglary tools, and loitering/prowling in Cobb County.

Officers took Figueroa to a nearby hospital for evaluation and then to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County, where he awaits extradition to Cobb County.
