Daniel Cormier supports Jon Jones after alleged incident with drug testing agent

They have rarely agreed throughout their careers, but it seems that the relationship between Daniel Comier and Jon Jones has relaxed somewhat.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Jones had been charged with two minor misdemeanor offenses stemming from an alleged incident involving a drug testing agent in March, who claimed Jones acted in a threatening manner while taking a drug sample at the UFC heavyweight champion’s residence.

Jones vehemently denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty on Wednesday. The case will now be heard by a single judge.

But despite some of their past incidents as well as some notable problems of Jones outside the cage, Cormier said on his Youtube channel that the accusations against his rival appear, at least at first glance, unfounded.

“I know we’re all quick to judge Jones because he’s had problems in the past, but the reality is, if a guy is at his house and has a few drinks in his own four walls, so what?” Cormier said, according to MMA Junkie.

“It’s his right to do that. And when the drug testers come and he’s maybe a little drunk or a little light-headed, the interactions might not be as fun or as easy as they would have been on other occasions.

“So I always thought that was bullshit,” Cormier added. “I don’t think much comes of it, but because of who he is, no matter what happens with that guy, it’s always going to be a story. And honestly, that’s a little bit like living in the spotlight, but I think because of everything he’s done in the past, the light shines a little bit brighter on him, even in situations where it shouldn’t be. So I don’t think it’s really that big of a deal. Some of the things that have happened in the past have been much more serious.”

“If you hate Jones and hope something comes out of it, I don’t think that’s going to happen,” he continued. “I think this man got a little bombed, and I think a misdemeanor is just the court’s way of taking action, because when you do something wrong, something has to be done.”

“I’m not the judge, I’m not the jury, so it doesn’t really matter,” Cormier said. “I’m just a guy who doesn’t like a guy and actually sticks up for that guy because I know this is bullshit.”

Jones and Cormier have fought twice in their careers. Their first encounter nine years ago, Jones won by unanimous decision. Jones knocked out Cormier in their second fight in July 2017, but the fight was voided after Jones tested positive for a banned substance.
