2 people arrested after chase and barricade situation in Grand County

DENVER (KDVR) – Two people were arrested following an alleged car theft, a police chase and a barricade situation in Grand County.

At 7:22 a.m. Monday, the Grand County Communications Center said they received a report of a black F-150 truck stolen near Lake Granby.

A Granby police officer spotted the truck southbound on Highway 34 near Granby and attempted to stop it, but police said the driver of the stolen truck did not stop and sped away.

The Granby County Sheriff’s Office took control and initiated a chase eastbound along Highway 40. Officials said drivers reached speeds of up to 100 mph.

Officers were eventually able to conduct a tactical vehicle intervention. The sheriff’s office said the driver resisted arrest and eventually crashed into two sheriff’s office cars.

The driver then attempted to flee, but was quickly caught and taken into custody. The suspect was evaluated by medical personnel and taken to the Grand County Jail. Police said no officers were injured.

During that chase, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a second suspect who may be connected to the stolen truck. According to police, the second suspect was sitting in a red Dodge truck in the parking lot of a gas station at the entrance to Grand Lake and may have been armed.

Officers spent 50 minutes trying to get the man to comply and get out of his car. The sheriff’s office said they were eventually successful and were able to take him into custody.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said the two suspects are connected to the incidents and no longer pose a threat to the public.

“We recognize that these two incidents have impacted many people’s morning commutes and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to keep the community safe,” the Grand County Sheriff’s Office said.
