Three ships attacked in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean

Yemen’s Houthi movement has recently increased its attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Mediterranean, targeting three vessels with ballistic missiles, drones and booby-trapped boats.

TThese actions were in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip that left many people dead, according to Houthis’ military spokesman Yahya Saree, Reuters reports. In their most recent operations, the Houthis specifically targeted the refinery ship Bentley I and the oil tanker Chios Lion in the Red Sea.

According to Reuters, no damage or injuries were reported in these incidents. However, the Houthis, together with the Iraqi Islamic Resistance Movement, claimed responsibility for the attack on the Olvia in the Mediterranean, although this attack could not be independently verified.

Attacks on two ships near the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah were reported on Monday. One ship was slightly damaged by a drone boat, while another was attacked by three small boats, including an unmanned boat that collided with the ship. Despite the hostilities, both ships and their crews managed to continue their journey safely.

These actions have sparked retaliatory strikes by US and British forces aimed at neutralising drone and missile launch bases in Yemen. US Defense Intelligence Agency reports that these Houthis attacks have affected at least 65 countries and numerous energy and shipping companies, Reuters reports.
